Egg Dropping...Dr. Seuss....and Birthday Cupcakes!

The mission:  Use the above materials to create a container that will protect a raw egg when it is dropped from a ladder.  It was soooo cold this year, we tried doing it inside.  Lots of creative thinking, problem solving and fun!

The kids were not as amused as I was by my April Fool's Day joke.... I made brownies for them....or rather Brown Es.  Hee hee!

Awesome sight work practice. . . .thumbs up!

So much celebrating!

Valentine's Day and the 100th Day of School in one week.  Whoa!
Here are some shots from last week.  Valentine photos will have to come later.  I left my phone home that day by accident so the party photos are on one of the iPads at school.  I'll post those later on.

First, some photos of us at the high school watching the 1st and 2nd graders get ready for their big concert.  It was such a great show.  The kids on stage were awesome, and our little K kiddos were well-behaved.  Thumbs up to all!

Where is G?

Oh, there she is.

I offered the kids a challenge activity in the middle of the week.  They had to use tinfoil and shape it into a boat.  I was trying to sink it with pennies.  They had to beat me by creating a boat that would hold at least a dozen pennies.  I encouraged them to share ideas with each other.  The first boat builder's craft held 65 pennies.  The kiddo sitting next to him said, "Nice job, my expert friend."  This was so cool because a lot of the academics come hard to that particular student.  It was my favorite comment of the week.  I love challenges like this because there is no one right answer.  We will be doing one each month for the rest of the year.  My favorite is the Marshamallow Catapult Challenge, but it is good to be able to be outside for that one.

Math question for the morning:  How far would 100 chain links reach down the hall?

Here is the final chain.  The kids are holding it.  100 chain links did not reach very far down the hallway.

Mmmm.....our 100th day snack table.  Thank you sooooo much for all of your contributions.
You were very generous!

 Counting 10 snacks 10 times

Some family members  came to join us.  Always a nice treat!

We are 100 days smarter!  Unfortunately, we had lots of kiddos absent on Friday so you may notice our class seems really small.

While the kids were at lunch, I hid 100 little heart jewels around the room.  They searched until they found 100 of them.  Then we divided them up so kids could take a handful home to keep.

During writing time, we wrote about what we would do with 100 dollars.  Those were fun to read.  One kiddo was going to purchase an in-ground swimming pool with a slide!

Prior to choice time, I handed out 3 by 5 cards. .  .100 of them!
We worked together to write 100 words for the bulletin board outside our classroom.

Here are some shots of that activity.

The FINAL product

I just love this cute approximation of my name.

Check out this super sounding out of celebration!
